Here's something you probably haven't seen. This is done all the time on real hardwood floors. But THIS is a lock ridge Laminate floating floor. If you understand how these floors go together, then you know why this isn't technically possible with a floating floor. Ask your flooring guy if he can do it. I'll bet the answer is no. ......But I can. BTW, these pics where taken after the floor had be down for 5 years and it still looks like the day I installed it.

There was no insulation under old sub-floor. In order to get maximum efficiency from the radiant mats, it was necessary to insulate.

I use blown insulation to avoid ripping up the old sub-floor.
